Legends Chess

Why Legends Chess for students?

:: You want or need free after school chess programs

Most chess programs in the valley require an extra fee for after school chess programs. We do not. Why? Because we decided not to make a profit off of a game that costs only $12. Everyone should have access to the game of chess.

:: Your child wants to play in chess tournaments.

Of course they do! Chess is an amazing game!

:: Your child wants a United States Chess Federation (USCF) rating

The ASCF rating is good in one Arizona organization ONLY. It is not a national rating system.

Why doesn’t my school have a chess program?

If your school doesn’t have a chess program, it is probably because they don’t think they can afford it. Valley chess organizations provide chess to schools for a fee – until now. Legends Chess is committed to providing programs to ALL scholars who want to play chess in the Valley of the Sun. The fact is, a tournament-quality chess board is only $12.00. There is no reason why any highly qualified certified teacher shouldn’t feel comfortable starting a chess club at their school.

What is a USCF rating?

The United States Chess Federation (USCF) provides the only widely accepted chess rating in the United States. If you want to play in national tournaments, the USCF rating is the only one that will be accepted. Also, if you are attempting to get a scholarship to play chess in a university, the USCF rating is the only one schools will honor.

Why do scholars and their parents have to pay for chess tournaments?

While Legends Chess tries everything possible to minimize the cost of the program, there is a nominal fee to attend each tournament. After all, kids love trophies! Your scholar’s school bears half of that cost, but we ask parents to bear the other half – $5.00. Bear in mind that other chess tournaments in the valley run between $20-30.

Is chess right for my child?

There is only one way to know – play. What has your scholar got to lose? Join your school’s after-school chess program. Many students continue with the program even if they do not attend tournaments because they enjoy the companionship and the activities. If they put their mind to it, they will improve as players. Additionally, they will be growing their minds.
